So I made it back from amsterdam, believe there will be an epic post written about it when I hit my 13 hour layover in London later on today.
Just wanted to toss you all a few gems before I start packing though. Last night, while most of you were at the fall massive in Baltimore I would hope, I had the honor and the privilege of partying with some of the finest music in the world from personal favorites Ocelot, The Juan Maclean, and Simian Mobile Disco in a giant warehouse in the sketchiest neighborhood in Barcelona (sound familiar?). Apparently, starting this Thursday night and running through the end of December, this club, Razzmatazz (sounds lamer than it is) is celebrating its 8th anniversary by bringing in some of the most ridiculous acts in the world.
Here are some tracks I heard last night that you need:
The Killers- Human (ocelot remix)
Tiga- Mind Dimension- Mind Dimension 2- and Mind Dimension (Soulwax Remix)
Soulwax- NY Excuse (some kind of badass Juan Maclean/Funkytown remix)
“Sala Razzmatazz is now celebrating its 8th anniversary, and we’ve decided to reveal the recipes of our success. You’ll discover the new line of confectionary, at the hand of audio pastries, musical cakes, sonic sponges and decibel puddings which you’ll want to devour without fear to gain a miserable gram and using up ipso facto the calories on the dance floor. There’ll be something for all taste buds: gelatinous electronica, sugared pop, lightly-beaten rhythms, glazed guitars, frozen techno, freshly-baked new wave, creamy house… music that you’ll want to snack on, to dine on, as dessert or at strange times of day. Come one, come and see the gluttony that we have inside. There’s a cake for you. “– From the Razzmatazz page
Needless to say the night was a great time with good drinks and some crazy Spanish bastards. Made it home late, slept in… and now its time to start heading back to you all to put together some sick shit for this gig on the 5th at Bedrock. We’ll have real live tickets to sell you for the ESB there too… and some dope ass flyers that have taken entirely too long to put out.
See you all soon
in some new happenings with The Electronic Snowball, we are excited to announce that Strictly Mental will be on hand to paint live during Pretty Lights performance. Furthermore we will be holding a silent auction during The ESB for the painting that he will be creating during the event. Here at F5F we love to support local people doing exciting things, so check out and pick up some of his work at Strictly Mental Dot Com.
This week celebrates the 100th release of two of my favorite labels in the world. First, Poker Flat, the brain child of super producer Steve Bug, hits their milestone this month with a remix package of acid anthem “House of God.” The track, originally recorded in 1989, released in 91, was the first massive dropped by San Francisco’s D.H.S. (Dimensional Holofonic Sound). Personally, I’ve seen this song appear in sets across the globe, from DC to ol’ Praha, and the reaction that it gets never ceases to amaze me. The new release was originally dreamt up by Phonique, who had several remixes completed on it- but seeing an opportunity to make this release epic, Bug got D.H.S. involved to do a 20th anniversary mix and tapped Martin Landsky for a deeper more minimal look at it. This six tracker is available now on beatport.com and iTunes.
Get Physical Music also hits this milestone this week with GPM 100, a compilation featuring their brightest stars at the moment. Most notably, the founders of the label, Booka Shade and M.A.N.D.Y., team up for another masterpiece, this time entitled “Donut.” GPM has been dropping bombs since their inception and with this 100th release, they solidify their place as a cornerstone for the minimal/techno movement in all musics electronic. It is no wonder that this Berlin based label continues to put out dope tracks and that its artists seldom play to rooms that are not sold out. Getting my pick as one of the best labels out there (sorry Yoshitoshi), I’ve decided to post the link to this milestone comp. ENJOY.
The Kills, haling from across the pond in the U.K., have found their way into heavy rotation on my ipod these days (well before my car was stolen with it in the glovebox). Their combination of gritty lyrics, heavy guitar, and impulsive electronic samples is something I have never really heard before. But my absolute favorite thing about this band, is the power they throw into the chorus of every song. I would highly recommend getting their newest album, Midnight Boom, which includes my two favorite tracks, “Tape Song” and “Last Day of Magic.”
Boys and Girls, Fortune 5 Fifty will be throwing our first event this winter December 18th to be exact at The 13th Floor above The Belvedere. We are so proud to announce that our friends PRETTY LIGHTS will be here to rage it with us all the way from Colorado. This is going to be something not to be missed, so come out, shake a tail feather, be merry and support a good cause as 5 dollars of every ticket goes to The Toys For Tots Foundation. Tickets will be printed soon as well as some really great flyers so be on the look out and make sure you snag one. Tickets will be $20 and hopefully we will have a pay pal set up soon in order to make a master list for pre sales, but tickets will also be available through our promotion team Augie and Keating, whatever way get your tickets soon as we release them because this place is small and they will go quick.

If its not enough to just be, “Born in The USA”, Mr. Springsteen and the E Street will be hosted as the half time entertainment at this years Super Bowl in Tampa, Florida. Other then that the rumors are true and The Boss and the band will be releasing a new album this winter, a 12 track LP titled, Working On A Dream. This will be the first album in a long time without late organ player Danny Federici, bless his heart so I’m hoping the band still has the fire under them to turn out powerful and inspirational true blue american Rock n’ Roll.
